"Mr and Mrs Brown first met Paddington on a railway platform. In fact, that was how he came to have such an unusual name for a bear, for Paddington was the name of the station". Thus begins the story "A Bear Called Paddington" by Micheal Bond. In fact, the author actually did discover a lonely bear on a shelf whilst shopping one day in 1957, brought him home for his wife, and named him after the Paddington district of London in which they lived. Bond began writing stories about the bear, which today continue to captivate both young and old all around the world.
In 2008, Paddington will celebrate his 50th Birthday. Just like his literary counter-part, Mohair Paddington Bear by Steiff is very outgoing and travel-happy: WIth his wide brimmed hat and intricately crafted felt duffle coat and small suitcase, he is very happy at the prospect of moving in with bear lovers of all ages.
